5 - 7 years

Two contrasting pieces not to exceed 90 seconds each.

8 - 10 years

Two contrasting pieces not to exceed 90 seconds each.

11 - 12 years

Two contrasting pieces not to exceed 90 seconds each.

13 - 14 years

Two contrasting pieces not to exceed 90 seconds each.

15 - 16 years

Two contrasting pieces not to exceed 90 seconds each.

17 - 18 years

Two contrasting pieces not to exceed 90 seconds each.

19 - 25 years

Two contrasting pieces not to exceed 90 seconds each.


The entry form with the registration and entry fee, identification documentation and recording are to be received by no later than 20 June 2019.

Semi-finals: 7 and 8 September 2019.

Grand finale performance round and presentation of prizes: 22 September 2019.

Masterclasses: Venue and date that suit both parties to be confirmed.


Semi-finals will take place at Centurion theatre.

Grand Finale will take place at Atterbury theatre.



Winners of the Masterclasses must be prepared for a 60-minute session. 

Masterclasses are for public exhibition.  All participants and teachers are encouraged to attend sessions to learn from the techniques presented.  An entrance fee of R25.00 per person may be levied at the door.


A certified copy of birth certificate, passport or identification document is required.

The formal competition will take place over 3 rounds in an elimination format.

Audition round:  E-mail YouTube link. A YouTube link of 2 pieces (max. 90 seconds each) played by the entrant representing contrasting styles.

Semi-Finals is a public performance.

Grand Final is a public performance.

Please note: Entrants may be requested to verify or authenticate their recordings by personal performance of short excerpts from pieces chosen prior to their participation in the Semi-finals.

The Semi-finals will take place over a two-day period. Competitors will be notified of their status via email.

The Grand finale adjudication will take place over a single day.

The judge’s decision is final.

This competition is open to persons from the ages of 5 to 25 years. The age of a contestant will be deemed as at 31 August 2019.

All prize winners from previous competitions may enter.

The participant must enter for at least 2 categories or items.

The Executive Committee has the right to amend the age category of the contestant if it is established that the contestant has entered the incorrect category.

If a contestant competes in a round where the adjudicator is also the contestant’s teacher, a second adjudicator will be present for those contestants to ensure that there are no irregularities.

No agents, coaches, teachers, team leaders or make-up artists will be allowed backstage during the competition. Only one guardian will be able to accompany contestants to and from backstage.

Parents and guardians will be responsible for their minor children at all times before, during and after the competition.

The Executive Committee reserves the right to cancel this competition at any time if deemed necessary in its opinion or if circumstances are outside of its control. Entry fees will not be refunded under any circumstances whatsoever including, but not limited to the contestant wishing to withdraw from the competition.

No flash photography may be used in any of the venues during the competition and all phones must be switched to silent.

No intimidation of any contestant by any party or other contestants will be tolerated and all contestants are urged to be highly professional.

Pictures and performance may be used by the competition for all social media and advertising purposes without remuneration.

Prize giving will follow shortly after the final performance.

All competitors must report at least 20 minutes before their allocated time in each round.  Clean, unmarked copies of works to be performed must be presented in triplicate.  Original sheet music must be available.

The organisers will not provide accommodation.

The organisers will not provide transport to and from the competition venue.

Costumes and props must be age appropriate and full competition wear will be required.

Dress code in the final round is formal.

Stage etiquette is compulsory.



Registration fee: R125 participant.

Entrance fee for audition round:  R220 per piece, (minimum of 2 categories/piece is required) must accompany the entry form and is non-refundable.

Semi-Finals fee is R110 per category (minimum of 2 categories is required).

Grand finale: R40 flat fee.

Enjoy a one of a kind festival!

The biggest and first kids arts festival. Come and enjoy our wonderland in a safe and secure environment. 11 and 12 May 2019 at the Ruimsig Stadium.

The sole purpose of the Wêlakapêla Kids Festival, is to create a unique festival that has never been seen in South Africa. 

This festival will focus mainly on children and children’s productions, stalls will only sell interesting children’s items. 

This festival has it all – Live Entertainment, Children’s Theatre, Huge Inflatable Park for all ages, Food Stalls, Puppet Theatre, Children’s Beauty Salon, Haunted House, Flea market with all children’s products, Adult Wine & Dine area – Hours of Fun. 

This unique experience will be the first of its kind and focuses on the development of the arts for children of all ages and ethnic groups. The festival is very proud to produce a line-up on the main stage that allows the audiences to see all their favourite characters on one stage.
