Duan is a focused little Grade 3 pupil. He is very dedicated and believes strongly in right is right and wrong is wrong. He’s scared of heights but loves the outdoors especially fishing.  Most of all he absolutely adores his baby brother of 1 and a half years.

Bjorn Bertholdt

Bjorn Bertholdt is a Gr 6 student at Dainfern College in Johannesburg. Bjorn’s love for acting and singing started at a very young age and he is fortunate enough that he has been involved in a theatre production, TV series as well as a short film. Bjorn is being trained by Upstage Concepts and his love for performing continues to grow as he gets older.

Is a relatively introverted book worm until she gets on stage, that’s when she can feel she comes alive! She’s been involved in the performing arts since she was 7 and has a passion for theatre, particularly musical theatre.

Izak is 15 years old, from the farm called Schoongezight in the cold “Bokkeveld” (Western Cape). He is a Grade 9 pupil at HTS Drostdy located in windy Worcester. Not only does he excel in the cultural field, but also on the hockey field.

My name is Rebecca Lepley, I am 17 years old and I have been acting for the past 4 years with Upstage Concepts. In these 4 years I have discovered my love and passion for acting. Acting has been my saving grace as I was quite apprehensive growing up. Upstage Concepts has grown my confidence tremendously. They taught be everything I know and love about acting. From being able to experiment creatively with different styles and scripts and to becoming addicted to the “adrenaline rush” one gets from performing in front of an audience or a camera.

Mia-Cecilia (9) is a pupil at Durbanville Primary. She loves dancing Hip Hop, Modern, Ballet & Musical Theatre. She also takes drama and vocals lessons and enjoys playing the piano.

Hy speel hokkie en ringbal vir sy skool se 1wte span en sing ook in die Oosrandse kinderkoor. Courtney attends school at Reddam House Helderfontien, she is in GR 8 and is 13 years old.
She is the youngest of 3 in her family, she has been part of Upstage Concepts drama school since Gr R. She has competed in the National Eisteadfodd every year and has also competed in the South African Championships of the Performing Arts.
Her hobbies include hiking, music and art. She plays both indoor and outdoor hockey.

Tayla Macquet

Tayla is 16 years old. Her 2 great loves in life are art and music. She started dancing at the age of 2 years old but soon replaced that with singing. She has had vocal coaching since 8 years of age and has been performing ever since! If she is not singing you will find her with a sketch book in her hands.

Nadia is currently in Grade 12 at Garsfontein High School. Singing is her passion and she also enjoys art, drama and anime. She was a lead in the school musical presented at Atterbury Theatre a month ago and has been part of the cast for the last 3 years.

Olivia Vryenhoek

Age 19-25 years Vocal category winner, Best Festival Performance, Vocal Overall Second Place

Music has always been a big part of her life. She has been playing the violin for 12 years and she’s had classical singing training venturing into popular music. She has completed her Grade 8 Rock School exam and she is currently working on her performance diploma. Hannah Montana was her first inspiration but after, she was introduced to singers like Shirley Bassey, Whitney Houston and Etta James and there was no going back.

Graytin is 14 years old and currently a grade 9 pupil.He likes to perform wherever he finds an opportunity as drama is the love of his life.He enjoys playing cricket, golf and hockey. Being around his friends at school and creating laughter for others makes him happy.

She completed her matric at Hoërskool Waterkloof in 2018 where she excelled in Drama and Music as subjects. She won the trophy for best vocalist at the Cultural Festival for 4 years.In March 2019 she passed the Rock & Pop qualification through Trinity College of London with Merit and is currently studying Musical Theatre through Trinity College of London.

Bianke Van Staden

Age 8-10 Classical Instrumental category winner

Bianke started playing the violin when she was 5 years old on the renowned Suzuki method.
Eight months later she played her first recital at the Johannesburg Festival for the Advancement of Music and was awarded “Most promising string player 6 years and younger”. At the recent 2019 Johannesburg Festival for the Advancement of Music, Bianke obtained 5 diplomas and was awarded with “Most promising string player – 8 years and younger”.

Julian Nel

Age 11-12 years Classical Intrumental category winner

Julian (11) started playing the cello at the age of 5. He also enjoys playing the drums and is a member of the Jan Celliers Rock Band. Julian won the SASMT trophy, Johannesburg Music Festival, for the best string player in his age category from 2015 to 2019.

Teboho Motsatse

Teboho Motsatse, has been playing piano since age 3 and she is grateful and proud to say that she has obtained many skills and strengths during these years, many of which she believed was cultivated from her musical passion.
She wants to be a politician. She has started an anti-bullying club and Campaign in order to get closer to this goal, because she believes that excellence starts in your youth.

Kehan Taljaard

Age 15-16 years, Classical Instrumental category winner, Classical Instrumental Overall Second Place, Best Modern Work

Kehan Taljaard is a grade 9 learner at Pretoria Boys High School.He started playing cello at age 5,he received several masterclasses with cellists like Peter Bruns, Ben Capps and Mattia Zappa. In 2016 he was privileaged to perform as soloist with the Rand Symphony Orchestra and has won a large array of prizes from the Pretoria Eisteddfod since 2010.

Jolandi (21) loves music and playing piano. She is currently a BMus III student under Dr. Bryan Wallick at the University of Pretoria. She regularly participates in competitions, solo-performances, accompaniment, teaching and chamber music.

Best South African Composer

Carina Naudè (15) is a grade 10 – pupil of Monument Highschool. She started violin lessons with her mother, Drina Naudè and is currently a student of Zanta Hofmeyr. She is a member of the Simfonia Juventi Youth Orchestra since 2016 and participated in the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival where she was assistant concert master of the Concert Orchestra in 2018 and received master classes from Daniël Rowland, Siwoo Kim and Nicolas Dautricourt.
